Canada's frontcourt depth appears to have taken another hit.
Dallas Mavericks big man Dwight Powell is withdrawing from Team Canada to focus on the upcoming season, league sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.
New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett reportedly withdrew Thursday due to a mild calf strain, joining Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers on the sidelines.
Powell recently signed a three-year, $33-million contract with Dallas after a career season, during which he averaged personal bests in scoring (10.6) and field-goal percentage (59.7).
The 28-year-old was a member of Canada's bronze-medal squad at the 2015 FIBA AmeriCup, posting 4.7 points and 3.1 boards per contest in limited minutes.
Powell's loss opens the door for a number of big men, including 2019 summer league MVP Brandon Clarke and Los Angeles Clippers rookie Mfiondu Kabengele.
