The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins talked about a trade that included two young and promising players.
Colorado was interested in trading for right-hander Edward Cabrera, while Miami wanted infielder Brendan Rodgers, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The Marlins have plenty of good, young, and controllable starting pitchers. However, it's somewhat surprising to see Cabrera's name involved in rumors. The 24-year-old former top prospect posted a 3.01 ERA with 9.4 K/9 over 71 2/3 innings (14 starts) last season. He's also under team control through 2028.
A hurler like Cabrera could help a Rockies team that posted the 18th-best fWAR among major-league pitching staffs in 2022.
Meanwhile, Rodgers is coming off his first Gold Glove during his age-25 campaign. He manned second base but has also played shortstop in the past. The 2015 No. 3 pick also went deep 13 times with 63 RBIs and a .733 OPS over 137 games last season.
