The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from ending their World Series drought after a statement performance in Monday's Game 3.
The Brewers crushed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 at Tropicana Field thanks to an eight-run fifth inning. Milwaukee became the first team in Fall Classic history to score eight runs with two outs, setting a playoff single-game record that featured seven consecutive batters getting a hit.
"The guys just passed the baton to each other," Christian Yelich told FOX's Ken Rosenthal postgame.
He added, "It was just good at-bat after good at-bat after good at-bat."
Jackson Chourio went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base to pace his club's 16-hit attack. The 22-year-old is the youngest player to record a four-hit game in the World Series since the St. Louis Cardinals' Joe Garagiola in 1946, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo.
"He was tremendous. Locked in," Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters. "Gives us a big lift. You lead off the game with that knock, even though we didn't score a run, it just gives us a big lift."
Overall, Chourio now has eight hits, four runs scored, and three steals across 14 plate appearances against the Rays. His eight hits are the second most by a player in the first three games of a single World Series, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
"He's a really good player, very good hitter, seeing the ball well right now," Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters when asked about Chourio. "I think he got three hits on three different pitches. Covering a bunch of pitches."
Robert Gasser threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit with a walk and three strikeouts to pick up the win. The 27-year-old is the first left-hander to face the minimum through six frames in a Fall Classic game since Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax in 1965.
"It was a great team win, but we've got work to do," Gasser told FOX's Tom Verducci. "There's still one more game to go for us to win. I know everybody is eager to do it, and we're going to show up tomorrow ready to go."
The Brewers, who are 10-1 this postseason, can win their first championship Tuesday in Game 4.
Milwaukee can become the first team to sweep the LCS and World Series since the LCS became a best-of-seven series in 1985.
No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a World Series.
"Obviously, the only thing we can do is win tomorrow," Cash added.
