New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone had some high praise for reliever Clay Holmes after he broke Mariano Rivera's franchise record for consecutive scoreless appearances during Saturday's outing against the Toronto Blue Jays.

"They both have the ability to break a lot of bats," Boone said postgame, according to YES Network. "Clay with his sinker to righties, and Mariano made a living doing that against left-handers with his cutter in on the hands. I'm sure they keep the bat industry gainfully employed."

Meanwhile, Holmes - who owns a 0.28 ERA with 0.66 WHIP over 30 appearances this season - said he watched the legendary Yankees closer and Hall of Famer growing up.

"Just to be in the same category of just one little thing he's done is pretty cool," Holmes added.
