The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a one-year, $6.5-million contract with reliever Phil Maton, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.
The pact includes a 2025 club option that could take the total value to $14 million over two years, according to Murray.
Maton joins the Rays after a three-year stint with the Houston Astros, which included back-to-back trips to the World Series in 2021-22. He won a title two years ago but didn't pitch in the Fall Classic because of an injury.
The 30-year-old authored a 3.00 ERA with 1.12 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 over 68 appearances for the Astros in 2023. He also owns a dazzling 0.83 ERA over 21 2/3 innings in the postseason during his career.
Tampa Bay's bullpen accrued the eighth-best fWAR in baseball last year.
