Zhaire Smith appears to be inching closer to his NBA debut.
The Philadelphia 76ers rookie has been assigned to the G League's Delaware 87ers for non-contact elements of practice, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. He'll ramp up activities as the weeks progress.
Smith sustained a fractured foot at a developmental camp last August. He was drafted 16th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2018 NBA Draft and was subsequently traded to the Sixers for Mikal Bridges and the Miami Heat's unprotected 2021 first-round pick.
The 19-year-old has appeared in six NBA summer league games, averaging 7.7 points, 2.3 boards, and 2.7 assists per contest.
