The Boston Celtics traded starting center Daniel Theis to the Chicago Bulls as part of a three-team deal also involving the Washington Wizards, the latter club announced Thursday.
| To Celtics | To Bulls | To Wizards |
|---|---|---|
| Luke Kornet | Daniel Theis | Daniel Gafford |
| Mo Wagner | Javonte Green | Chandler Hutchison |
| Troy Brown |
Chicago will also receive $1.3 million from Boston and $250,000 from Washington, sources told former NBA GM Ryan McDonough of Radio.com.
Theis is averaging a career-high 9.5 points, 5.2 boards, and one block over 42 appearances in 2020-21. He started 106 games for Boston over the past four seasons. The move gets the Celtics under the luxury tax, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Brown could provide some additional offensive punch off the bench. He's just one season removed from averaging 10.4 points per game.
Chicago reportedly added two-time All-Star center Nikola Vucevic earlier Thursday.
Wagner is averaging 7.1 points on 50.8% shooting across 25 appearances this season. The Los Angeles Lakers drafted him 25th overall in 2018.
Hutchison showed some promise during his sophomore campaign, averaging 7.8 points and 3.9 boards over 28 appearances in 2019-20.
"This trade will help us both in the short term over the second half of the season and in the long term with two young, athletic players who we can continue to develop," said Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard. "Daniel brings rim protection and the ability to finish around the basket, while Chandler brings toughness on the defensive end, all attributes that complement our current roster."
