First-year forward Scottie Barnes, starting guard Fred VanVleet, big man Precious Achiuwa, and reserve Malachi Flynn are the latest Toronto Raptors players in the NBA's health and safety protocols, the team announced Tuesday.
All-Star forward Pascal Siakam, guard Gary Trent, and rookie Dalano Banton were previously added to the protocols as well.
VanVleet is averaging a career-high 20.1 points and a league-leading 37.9 minutes per game. Meanwhile, Flynn has played sparingly in 21 appearances this season.
Barnes has impressed in his debut campaign, averaging 15.6 points, 8.3 boards, and 3.4 assists across 27 games in 2021-22.
Toronto acquired Achiuwa last summer as part of the sign-and-trade deal for Kyle Lowry. The second-year center has posted 8.4 points and 8.1 boards per contest over 22 games - including 17 starts - this season.
The Raptors are scheduled to play the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday and are down to 10 available players after ruling out rookie Justin Champagnie due to a non-COVID-19 illness.
The club plans on signing Wisconsin Herd guard Tremont Waters to a 10-day hardship deal, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania. The LSU product has split the first three campaigns of his professional career between the NBA and G League.
Over the previous two seasons, Waters averaged 3.8 points and 2.1 assists through 37 appearances with the Boston Celtics. He had a solid 2019-20 campaign for the club's G League affiliate, registering 18 points, 7.2 assists, and 1.9 steals per contest en route to earning G League Rookie of the Year honors.
Waters is averaging 17.2 points, six assists, and 2.7 steals across 13 appearances for the Herd this season.
