Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard will be re-evaluated in one week due to swelling in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.
Leonard will undergo treatment and rehab. Medical imaging revealed he didn't have an acute injury.
The seven-time All-Star, who missed Sunday's 117-94 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves, isn't dealing with any knee pain. His swelling is considered a result of wear and tear, and the two-time Finals MVP won't take part in basketball activities over the next week.
Toronto has a pair of matchups against the Orlando Magic this week before embarking on a four-game road trip. Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic said he's eager to see how his team responds.
"When Kawhi's not playing, obviously we're missing a very important piece, but it opens up a lot of opportunities for other guys. ... We have enough talent. We have enough on the team that we can overcome (Leonard's absence)," Rajakovic told reporters Tuesday.
He added, "We just have to be very intentional with our work, with how we want to guard, with small adjustments we can make, and how we can improve. ... I'm sure what's going to come out of this is that a lot of players are going to step up and improve, and we're going to build good chemistry through this stretch, so that when Kawhi comes back, it's going to be even easier for him to fit in."
Leonard also released a statement on social media Tuesday.
