Deportivo La Coruna has picked Clarence Seedorf as the man to steer the Galician outfit clear of La Liga's relegation zone.
Monday's appointment came a day after confirmation that Cristobal Parralo was sacked despite only succeeding Pepe Mel as manager in November. The new hire is contracted at Estadio de Riazor for the remainder of the season and is arriving with coach Valerio Fiori.
Seedorf's name was linked to a vacancy at Oldham Athletic - a modest club writhing near the bottom of England's third tier - in October, and he was sacked in his previous stints in charge of AC Milan and Shenzhen FC. He's now been tasked with correcting the descent of La Liga's 1999-2000 conqueror.
He inherits a side that's three points adrift of safety in Spain's top flight, and was overwhelmed in Friday's 5-0 loss at Real Sociedad.
The retired midfielder was unfortunate to play the full 90 minutes for Milan when Deportivo enjoyed one of the finest moments in its history. The Spanish team incredibly overturned a 4-1 aggregate deficit with a 4-0 victory in the 2003-04 Champions League quarter-final stage, but was dumped from the following round by eventual champion FC Porto.
Seedorf, 41, holds the distinction of being the only man to win the Champions League with three separate clubs - Ajax Amsterdam, Real Madrid, and Milan - and also picked up five domestic titles during his playing days.
