Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has been suspended for six matches and fined €40,000 after spitting in an opponent's face last weekend, the German football federation announced Monday.
"Five of the six matches are to be served directly in Bundesliga and cup games, with the sixth suspended until 21st December 2021," the German governing body said.
The 23-year-old was found guilty of "assaulting an opponent" after he was sent off in the 78th minute of Saturday's home defeat to Hoffenheim for spitting in Stefan Posch's face from close range.
Gladbach also fined Thuram one month's salary, which the club will donate to charity.
