Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith had some Twitter users mistaking him for a certain famous actor following the slapping incident at this year's Academy Awards.

Smith told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that after actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, he began receiving mentions on Twitter from people praising him for standing up for Jada Pinkett Smith.

The actor Smith set social media ablaze Sunday when he walked on stage at the Oscars and smacked Rock in response to a joke the latter made about his wife's hair. Smith went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor - the first of his career - for his role as Richard Williams in "King Richard."

The Dodgers' Smith, who celebrated his 27th birthday Monday, also shares his name with Atlanta Braves pitcher Will Smith. They made MLB playoff history in 2020 by becoming the first pitcher-batter matchup to feature two players with the same name.
