Liverpool's Alexander Isak: Facing late fitness assessment

Rotowire• ·

Isak (thigh) remains questionable for Saturday's Premier League matchup against Brentford, with a final decision on his availability expected after Friday's training session, according to coach Andoni Iraola. "It's early for us to say, we have still tomorrow's training. Obviously, they were not ready for last night [against LASK]. We have to wait and see. I think it's still very early but the same way I said they are not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time, yes."

Analysis:

Isak has missed Liverpool's last two matches against Manchester City and LASK after sustaining a thigh injury while representing Sweden during the international break. Although manager Iraola previously indicated that the issue was not expected to result in a lengthy absence, the striker has yet to recover sufficiently to return to competitive action. His status for Saturday remains uncertain, with the coaching staff keeping the possibility of his involvement open pending further assessment. Liverpool could be without both Isak and Cody Gakpo (ankle) once again if neither player is cleared, potentially leaving the team short of attacking options against Brentford.
