Khvicha Kvaratskhelia "underwent successful surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," his club, Paris Saint-Germain, announced on Tuesday.
The Georgian attacker, who finished sixth in Monday's Ballon d'Or, underwent surgery at a clinic in Doha, Qatar, and "will now begin his rehabilitation", PSG said.
Kvaratskhelia suffered the injury in PSG's Champions League victory over Barcelona last week.
His entourage told AFP last week that "it was difficult" to discuss a return date, but that this type of injury usually sidelines players for at least six months.
