The New York Giants are releasing running back Najee Harris, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
New York elevated Harris to starter for Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints, but he registered only four carries. He voiced frustration with his role following the contest.
Najee Harris on the Giants’ RB rotation: “It’s hard to get in a rhythm with one or two plays. The first couple runs will be like, ‘OK, how are they playing it?’ And then the next ones will be, ‘OK, this is how you attack it.’ But if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do. That’s why I’m saying, ‘I don’t know.’ I’ve never been through none of this before.”

The Giants also used Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary on Sunday, while usual starter Cam Skattebo got no carries. After Harris' comments, head coach John Harbaugh said one of New York's running backs needs to "do something" to earn the starting job, per Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper.
Harris joined the Giants on a one-year deal in August. He spent last season with the Los Angeles Chargers but appeared in just three contests. The 28-year-old eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four NFL campaigns, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Giants lead the NFC East at 3-2-1 and return to action Sunday against the Houston Texans.
