West Ham United's search for a new center-back has been dealt another blow as Duje Caleta-Car rejected an opportunity to move to the London Stadium, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.
The 24-year-old preferred to remain in France and compete in the Champions League with Marseille, who are in a group with Manchester City, FC Porto, and Olympiacos. Caleta-Car was selected in Marseille's squad for Sunday's Ligue 1 meeting with Lyon.
West Ham manager David Moyes was hopeful of signing Caleta-Car for around £20 million, Steinberg reports.
The Irons have also failed with bids for James Tarkowski - who Burnley reportedly value at as much as £50 million - and recent Leicester City arrival Wesley Fofana, and have considered approaches for Watford's Craig Dawson, Arsenal's Calum Chambers, and Swansea City youngster Joe Rodon.
West Ham supporters have been given renewed optimism after their team overcame a tricky start to the Premier League season with comfortable wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester. David Moyes' side scored seven goals without reply in those two matches, with Angelo Ogbonna looking more assured in the middle of a back-three.
