The Oakland Athletics placed closer Blake Treinen on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Friday, with a rotator cuff strain and selected right-hander Brian Schlitter from Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced Sunday.
Treinen said Saturday he had an MRI because the injury was bothering him for several weeks.
Right-hander Liam Hendriks - who earned the save in Oakland's 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday - will likely serve as the closer while Treinen is out, Slusser adds.

Treinen is having an underwhelming season after being arguably the best reliever in baseball in 2018. The 30-year-old has a 4.08 ERA after a jaw-dropping 0.78 mark last year. His 9.2 K/9 rate is down from 11.2 and he has already walked as many batters (21) in 35 1/3 innings as he did in 80 1/3 innings during his All-Star campaign.
