The Baltimore Orioles are hired Jared Banner as general manager to work under president of baseball operations Mike Elias, the team announced Monday.
Banner previously served as assistant GM of the Chicago Cubs.

"When I first heard Mike's vision, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of," Banner said in a statement. "The Orioles are a storied franchise with a passionate fanbase, a historic ballpark, and an organization full of talent. I look forward to building upon the foundation laid by Mike and his team to construct a world-class organization and bring championships back to Baltimore. I am extremely grateful to Mike, David, and Mike for the opportunity, and I am excited to get to work."
Banner will be introduced in a press conference at Camden Yards on Oct. 27.
The Orioles had operated without a general manager since promoting Elias to president of baseball operations before the 2025 campaign. The club had been searching for a new GM since at least the end of that season.
The Cubs originally hired Banner as vice president of special projects in December 2020. He previously held executive roles with the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox.
The Orioles are coming off a second straight losing season, having gone 79-82 to finish fourth in the AL East. They eclipsed 100 wins in 2023 and finished atop the division with a young roster including that season's AL Rookie of the Year, Gunnar Henderson.
