Miami Heat forward James Johnson underwent surgery for a sports hernia shortly after the Heat's first-round loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told Yahoo's Shams Charania.
Recovery time from sports hernia surgery can vary significantly, but it tends to top out around two months, meaning Johnson should be back to full strength comfortably ahead of training camp.
If Johnson was dealing with the injury throughout the first round, he certainly didn't show it. The 31-year-old was arguably the Heat's best player in the series, averaging 12.4 points, six rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.2 blocks, shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from 3-point range, and regularly checking Ben Simmons at the defensive end.
