The Arizona Diamondbacks did not tender 2019 contracts to relief pitcher Brad Boxberger, starter Shelby Miller, or infielder/outfielder Chris Owings ahead of Friday's 8 p.m. ET deadline. All three will become free agents.
Boxberger, 30, served as the Diamondbacks' closer in 2018 after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade last offseason. He recorded 32 saves for Arizona, but also posted a 4.39 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP in 53 1/3 innings. His season started with promise, but went south in the second half with a 7.00 ERA and 14 walks in 18 innings.
The 28-year-old Miller ends his time with the Diamondbacks after a disappointing, injury-riddled three seasons. He was initially acquired from the Atlanta Braves for shortstop Dansby Swanson, outfielder Ender Inciarte, and pitcher Aaron Blair in December 2015. The former All-Star went 5-18 with a 6.35 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 29 appearances since the trade.
Owings had been used as a bit of a super utility player, appearing throughout the infield and outfield. Entering his third year of arbitration, the 27-year-old was coming off his worst season at the plate, hitting .206/.272/.302 with four home runs in 106 games.
