The Cleveland Indians designated veteran outfielder Leonys Martin for assignment Saturday, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com.
Martin, 31, was acquired by Cleveland at the 2018 trade deadline but appeared in only six games before losing the rest of his season to a severe bacterial infection.
He has struggled in 2019, batting .199/.276/.343 with nine home runs and four stolen bases over 65 games.
The move was made to clear room for 24-year-old right-hander Aaron Civale, who was recalled from Triple-A. Civale will make his major-league debut Saturday against the Detroit Tigers.
