Report: Eagles poach Milton off Cowboys' practice squad

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 28: Joe Milton III #10 of the Dallas Cowboys looks to pass during the first half of the 2026 NFL preseason game against the New Orleans Saints at AT&T Stadium on August 28, 2026 in Arlington, Texas.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing quarterback Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad and adding him to their 53-man roster, sources told NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.

The transaction comes in the wake of Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts being sidelined by a superficial blood clot. Hurts won't play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, and the team hasn't provided a timeline for his return.

Milton was drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He was traded to the Cowboys in 2025. He has never started an NFL game, but he's attempted 53 regular-season passes, completing 37 of them for 424 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He's also rushed 15 times for 66 yards and a score.

The former sixth-round pick had a stellar 2026 preseason with the Cowboys, throwing for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Milton provides more depth to a Philadelphia quarterback room that also contains former sixth-round pick Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton. McKee is slated to make his third career start Sunday, though this would be the first that doesn't come in a Week 18 finale.

McKee went 1-1 over his two previous starts with 597 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

The Eagles previously had veteran Andy Dalton as their top backup QB option but released him earlier this month.

Philadelphia is 2-3 entering Week 6.
